Media 68 is a project that is partially funded by the European Community (DG XIII, Info2000) for the creation of a CD-ROM and an Internet site dedicated to the ideas, facts, movements and briefly to the history of the year 1968 in the world.
A period, characterized by a dense web of events, which left lasting signs and controversial problems of interpretation in every country.
The work was planned with a mainly historiographical and documentary slant: reconstruction of the facts, collection of documents and of iconographic and sound sources.
Rather than a specific interpretational thesis, the research aims at revealing the complex network of interactions, connections, references that made of 1968 a global event and one that was different from all previous and subsequent political-social insurrections, favouring political development and cultural production of the movements as a point of observation, without however ignoring the reconstruction of the overall historical context.
From the general picture there emerges the extensiveness, synchronism and diffusion of that combination of facts, ideas and behaviour that are attributed to 1968, through the different geographical areas and the most varied political, cultural, institutional, behavioural, existential circles.
The multi-medial instrument and the hypertext structure have turned out to be particularly efficacious in rendering this complexity.
