In Paris tens of thousands of people participate in a march of the UNEF. The police break up the pickets of the strikers in front of the Gare de Lyon. Throughout the country Gaullist civic Committees of action are formed.
Occupied the university city of Rome. After a few clashes between students and Fascists the police surround the university.
Convoked for 9 September the XIV Congress of the Czechoslovakian Communist Party. Rehabilitated the former president of the young Czechoslovakians Heizlar.
In Turin, after a rally of the PSIUP, a cortege attacks the Great Engines of Fiat factory and clashes with the police in front of "Stampa".
After a week of unrest, arrested in Senegal 31 trade union leaders. Accused of an attempted Communist coup.

Violent campaign of the party and of the Polish government against the cinema circles. Among the most attacked the Jewish or pro-Jewish directors. "Hands up" by J. Skolimovski is blocked by the censorship and its export is forbidden.
Battle in Saigon around the Chinese quarter of Cholon, occupied by the Vietcong. An American rocket kills six high South Vietnamese officials.

The Communist daily defines "inopportune" the demonstration of the previous day. Separate negotiations in many protest situations.
Dubcek closes the Central Committee of the Czechoslovakian Communist party. He affirms that it will not be permitted to form other parties and attacks the double extremism of the Stalinist and "anarchist" elements.

All Saigon is a battlefield. Americans and South Vietnamese besiege the areas freed by the NLF. The Vietcong bombard with rockets the areas in the hands of the government forces.
Hours of clashes in Belgrade between students and police. The pretext is futile: a party in the student area of Novi Beograd in which the students were not able to participate because the room was already fully occupied by the militants of the party.
First separate agreements in some small French industries. The industrialists accept the requests for salary increases but not the number of working hours.
Tried in Milan the Cavallero Band. The accusation is massacre after a failed bank robbery on 25/9/67. Cavallero claims its choice as political: "The bank robbery is a revolutionary action". It defines itself as a forerunner of the protests.
The Fascists attack the university of Rome, where a general assembly is in progress, but they are repelled by the occupiers. Immediately afterwards the police enter the university amidst the applause of the Fascists.

In New York the actress Valerie Solanas seriously injures Andy Warhol with a number of gunshots.
A Commission of testimony and legal assistance just formed denounces in Paris the atrocities committed by CRS during and after the street fights. Also denounced the disappearance of 11 people during the night of the barricades. The young Gaullists demonstrate at the palace of Chaillot.
All demonstrations forbidden in Belgrade. The students occupy all the faculties and rebaptize the red university campus Karl Marx. In spite of the red flags and the portraits of Tito held up during the corteges, they are accused of destroying the "Socialist democracy".
Demonstrations in the universities of Northern Europe, in Stockholm and Helsinki.

|
General strike in Arab Jerusalem and in Nablus for the first anniversary of the Six Day War. Protest marches in Jerusalem and clashes with the Israeli police at the gate of Damascus.
Attack on Bob Kennedy during the celebrations for his victory in California. The attacker, Sirhan Sirhan, is a Palestinian refugee and states that he shot because of the notoriously pro-Israeli positions of the presidential candidate.
The assassination of Bob Kennedy will be commemorated by the Rolling Stones in their "Sympathy for the Devil", recorded the next day, and by Crosby, Stills and Nash in "Long Time Gone", which Crosby writes on the night of the assassination.
In France the agreement has now been signed by the workers of the gas and electricity and textiles industries, the workers of the paper mills and of the refineries, the entire sector of agriculture and the glass workers. The referendum on the agreements are heavily influenced.

Bob Kennedy dies. Immediate the rumours of a conspiracy.
The agreement in France is signed by the public transport sector, the post office workers and the banks. The number of strikers is thus halved. The French Communist Party openly attacks "the extremist groups". 8 of the 11 missing are found. Student demonstrations in Paris.
Stormed the neighbourhood of Cholon in Saigon. The battle continues in the eastern areas of the city, still in the hands of the NLF.

The police evacuate the occupied Renault factory of Flins but only a few workers resume work. In the afternoon a demonstration of workers and students tries to reoccupy the factory and clashes with the police in the surrounding countryside. In a television interview De Gaulle explains his idea of the change of society.

Arrested Luther King's assassin, the fugitive James Earl Ray.
Struggle for power in Saigon between president Van Thieu and the vicepresident, leader of the hardest wing, Cao Ky. Thieu is for now the strongest but the future balance depends on the new commander of the American expeditionary body Abrams.
De Gaulle grants a pardon and rimpatriation to the former leader of the terrorist organization Oas Bidault. The CGT accuses the students and the secretary of the SNESUP, Geismar, of having caused the violence at the Renault of Flins. Clashes continue around the factory.
Anti-USA demonstrations throughout Japan: arrested 240 participants in the protests.
Public trial against the repression organized in the evening by the Milanese movement. The students, in cortege, block the cars that distribute "Corriere della Sera" and face the police until late at night. 12 the arrests.

The electoral campaign begins in France. The choice of the French Communist Party and of the CGT is to present themselves as guardians of order by attacking the students and the extra-parliamentary left, presented as dangerous provocateurs in a political climate that is daily more reactionary.a.
Tito promises the students the reforms requested, he personally undertakes to arrive at a solution to the many problems indicated by the movements and threatens dismissals if the protest does not cease.

|
Clashes in Shanghai between students about to leave to work in the country and elements defined by the Chinese press as "counter-revolutionary". It is one of the signs of a reaction against the cultural revolution.
In spite of the invitation of the CGT to leave the factory to not accept provocations, the workers reoccupy the Renault of Flins. In the clashes in the area a 17 year old student, Gilles Tautin, dies; he is forced to throw himself into the Seine and he drowns. The news causes hours of clashes in the Latin Quarter.
The students of Belgrade receive Tito's speech enthusiastically, they evacuate the university and celebrate in the streets their victory. In July, the rightwing of the party will fully take the situation back in hand and will put the movement in a condition of being harmless.
