1968-1998

There are numerous bibliographies on 1968, in some cases very well-grounded. What we intend doing here is a job, to be completed over time, that manages to offer a service that is very close to being exhaustive. The limit of almost all existing bibliographies, even in the cases of better-documented collections, is that of offering news and information limited to a precise geographical area. On the contrary, even considering the international nature of the project, the final objective will be that of offering an exhaustive bibliography at international level. In order to do this we gave ourselves different expiry dates. At first the bibliography present in the site will regard exclusively books and will be divided into geographical areas. Over time we mean on the one hand to extend the reporting of books, filling in the gaps; on the other proceed to the systematic perusal of the magazines which, during 1968, carried out a fundamental role both in having the documentation produced by the movements and also their theoretical reflection circulated.

In order to avoid offering a long list in which it is difficult to find one's way, this list has been thought and arranged by thematic, chronological and typological areas. From a thematic point of view the bibliography will be divided into works “of a general nature”, that is those studies that deal globally with the theme of '68, and into works regarding single geographical areas ('68 in Italy, in France, etc.). From a chronological point of view, all the works will be subdivided between works produced at the time of the movement (works produced during the two-year period 1968-1969) and subsequent reflections. Finally, at the time when the perusal of the magazines will also appear, within each geographical area the essays and articles that have appeared in the magazines will be separated from the books and listed under the magazine headings.

While we are inserting this bibliography in progress into the site, we encourage all 'navigators' to send us reports of volumes not present in the bibliography and if possible reports also of degree or doctorate theses for which we would like to open a special section within the bibliography.
